My mom and brother and I got pedicures, this morning. Mmmmmm ... and the place is super-cheap: all three together were only $54. My mom and I have really cute flowers on our big toes :-)

What exactly does a pedicure entail?

A pedicure is a delightful combination of a foot soak in a warm, foot-sized jacuzzi, a foot/leg massage, a little scrubbing to remove (or reduce) callouses, and plenty of attention for one's toes' nails and cuticles. My toenails are mint green, and the lady was sweet and added very nicely executed flowers in white paint to my big toes.

It was heaven, having someone work on my feet. I feel a little odd about it, since the status implications aren't very nice ... but it felt so wonderful.

Wow, that comes out to $18 per pedicure... which IS cheap! Aren't they great? I feel like they're my one big indulgence. I usually get a very light pink, so it's hard to tell if it starts chipping and stuff... they last so long, anyway, that I think it's worth it. Manicures, on the other hand... they last, like, a day for me, so I never bother... ~J

Heh ... I like manicures because I can't trim my own cuticles and they give me no end of trouble.

Nail care, however, is super simple. Three-step buffing blocks revolutionized the way I think about my hands. Bath & Body Works has them for $2. They make my nails look like they've been polished (which, in a sense, is the case).

Gah! They cost $5 now! I just looked yesterday! Grr.

And the status implications.. yeah. But I decided that it's because feet can be...well, dirty and yucky, much more so than hands. And yes, it's not nice to stick dirty feet in someone's face and ask them to take care of them. So if I'm about to get a pedicure, I try to take extra care to have nice clean feet. And then I don't feel too bad.

Hrm ... maybe they're priced differently based on location. I'll see if I can find a $2 version for you here :-)

I, too, try to have particularly clean feet for pedicures. Mostly, it's the toe painting that I like. I can scrub and smooth and moisturize my own feet ... but I can't paint pretty flowers!
